5th meeting “Spanish card game”

Today 7.11.2016 we met at “New York”, cafeteria situated in the center of Tampere, to play some Spanish card game. Finally, we enjoyed a lot playing the first game, so we didn’t have enough time to play to more games.

First of all, we were talking about the diferente cards depending of the country, since I didn’t get any Spanish deck to play and I only got a French deck. I was telling and showing to rest of the group the differences between Spanish cards and the French cards. Basically, we don’t have jokers, the suits are different, although we have 4 as the French

deck(Cups, coins, Clubs, Swords), the figures are different, but even so the Spanish deck has three figures, as well, and the Spanish deck doesn’t have 10 card, and sometimes even it doesn’t have 10,9,8 cards. In Germany, also the deck are different: the figures, the suits(Hearts, Bells, Acorns, Leaves), the number of cards, and like the Spanish deck, there’s no color difference.

Then, we were playing to “Brisca”, one of the most common card games in Spain, and in other Mediterranean countries, but none knew how to play, so I had to explain the rules. Firstly, you have to give to everyone three card from the deck and show the last card of the deck. The last card of the deck will be the trump card, and each card of the same suit will beat to the other cards from different suites regardless the card value. Later, someone starts the game playing a card, and you would have to play a card which belongs to the same suit of the card already played, and logically with a better value, or if you don’t have any card which belongs to the same suit, you can play a card which belongs to the trump suit. The values of the cards are here: the most powerful card is the ace which worth 11 points, next card is the three which worth 10 points, the king is the most powerful figure in the deck and it worth 4 points, the horse worth 3 points, and lastly “sota” worth 2 points. The player who wins each round has the right to take first the card from the deck top. When there are no cards in the deck, the player who gather more points will be the winner.
