On thuesday (17th of september) was my first meeting with my partners at TAMK. Our group includes 3 exchange students from Russian Federation (me), Hong Kong (Jenny) and Czech Republic (Martina). We knew each other before each one teach one course, so actually it wasn`t our first meeting at all.
On this meeting Jenny told us about her city, its location and history. Hong Kong is so far from Finland (approx. 8000km). This city is located on the southern coast of China at the Pearl RiverEstuary and the South China Sea.
Also she show us photos of her home and some nice views of the city.
Hong Kong has got great history. After the First Opium War (1839–1842), it became a British colony with the perpetual cession ofHong Kong Island, followed by Kowloon Peninsuka in 1860 and a 99-year lease of the New Territories in 1898. After it was occupied by Japan in theSecond World War, the British resumed control until 30 June 1997. As a result of negotiations between China and Britain, Hong Kong was transferred to the People`s republic of China under the 1984 Sino-British Joint Declaration. The territory became China’s Special administrartive region with a high degree of autonomy on 1 July 1997 under the principle of one country, two systems.
This meeting was interesting and we decided to meet again on this week:)
