The third meeting topic was movies. In this session, we have chosen a movie original from our countries and the aim was to try to explain the plot and the traits that we like or not about the movie.
The first one to present his movie was Simon. He introduced us to the french movie “Ce que le jour doit à la nuit”. He did a great effort to explain the plot of the movie in Spanish and he did a great job, we understood the plot in perfection and also we have given him some feedback about the vocabulary used and what this movie suggests to us.
Carlos introduced the movie Amores Perros, it was a movie that I actually have never heard about before. He also did a great job and a good effort with the french language.
In the end, it was my turn. I introduced the Spanish movie ” Hasta que dure la guerra”. It’s a film about the Spanish civil war. It relates to the early stages, before exploding the conflict and during the first combats. It’s not focused on the battle, like other movies. This movie is focused on the person Miguel de Unamuno, a Spanish intellectual and writer and relates how society was facing the times and the challenges. How fascism was shooting down all the thinking minds.
It was a cool session overall!
For the second meeting, we tried to improve the past tense, so we thought that talking about our past vacations would be a pleasant way to train this tense.
It was quite tricky as french verbs are quite irregular. for example, the passé composé is one of those that I find difficult.
We talked about what was our last vacation, how were the vacations during the pandemic and what was our best ever holiday vacation had.
After this, we discussed Pablo Hásel, a Spanish rapper imprisoned for different polemical actions. Without going very deep with our concerns or opinions about him, we explained very generally what happened with him. With this topic we finished our meeting
Today we did the first meeting. As it was the first day, we introduced ourselves before. We explained what are we studying, our hobbies and things we like to do. Simon first introduced himself in Spanish. this was due to he has some Spanish previous knowledge so he was able to do it. Later on, it was the turn of Carlos and me. We also introduced ourselves in French, as we also had some knowledge about this language. After the presentation, we could understand more or less the language level that we have.
After that, we discussed the terms of the preliminary plan and we arranged what to write on it.
Some basic sentences for ordering things or for asking things were teaching afterwords. We learnt how to demand the bill, ask which tobacco brand are you smoking or if can I have a beer. These are some things that are used in normal daily life, that sometimes are not teaching at school.
It was cool to teach Spanish besides Carlos to Simon. They were very gentle and cool people to make this kind of projects.
After 5 years without practising french, it was good to try to speak it another time and to realize at which level I was.
